Putting on a 60s night ought to be easy but actually it’s really quite tricky. Get too anal and you end up with a Northern soul night where no one knows any of the songs. Yeah, there’ll be dancing but you need those old favourites to really get the excitement going.
However if you head too far into classic turn territory and you might as well pipe Heart FM’s drivetime through the speakers.
Luckily Arc know about getting the balance between stuff you know and stuff you don’t thanks to the hugely popular Hold Up night. In fact if you dragged that indie hoedown back a few decades then Some Kind Of Wonderful would be the result. The tunes are quality all night long – Jefferson Airplane’s ‘White Rabbit’ especially causing psychedelic arms to flail with enthusiasm – which helps the dancefloor as much as the cheap drinks. Guests are promised on occasion, including Born Bad residents giving a different flavour.
If there’s any criticism it’s just that there’s no fingerless-gloved, drumming best friends sulking in the corners.
