Now in its fourth year, WhaleFest is returning to the Brighton Centre for a weekend of cetacean-themed fun. There are guest speakers delivering prepared talks throughout the two days, including all manner of ocean heroes such as Monty Halls, adventurer and presenter of BBC’s Great Barrier Reef, former orca trainer and star of the Blackfish documentary John Hargrove, president of the Born Free Foundation Will Travers, and celebrity animal lover Michaela Strachan.
Marine conservation is a hot topic at the moment, for anyone interested in animal welfare, with Japan’s infamous Taiji Hunt having just ended after six months of almost daily captures and killings. WhaleFest aims to promote awareness of the life aquatic with a panel discussion hosted by Donal MacIntyre on animal rights with a cross-party group of MPs. A great opportunity to learn first-hand about these magical creatures.
There’ll also be a shark zone, an immersive 360° submarine cinema, life-sized replicas and even a meditative area with whale music. All profits go to the World Cetacean Alliance, helping protect whales, dolphins, oceans and marine life.
Tickets are available here.
