Brugal Cocktail Masterclass

Brugal, the Dominican Republic’s favourite rum has made a real splash in Brighton, popping up all over the place. From live art installations in Jubilee Square – with Pinky, Req and many others – to amazing graffiti artists pimping t-shirts in bars. They’ve also got some great cocktail recipes which we got Bruno at Life to show us how to make.

Brugal, the Dominican Republic’s No.1 selling rum and the only rum distilled, matured and bottled on the island, has recently been launched in the UK. Brugal Anejo is a premium blend of aged rums that have matured in American white oak casks to produce a beautiful amber liquid, with a subtle woody aroma and caramel smoothness for a well-rounded palate. Brugal Extra Viejo meanwhile uses a blend of more mature rums and has a dark amber colour with an accentuated aroma of wood, a hint of spice and an exceptionally smooth finish. All the ingredients are actively sourced from local farms maintaining Brugal’s island provenance.

BRUGAL GOLDEN MOJITO

Ingredients • 2 shots Brugal Añejo Rum • 3 fresh squeezed lime wedges (1/2 lime) • ½ shot gomme (sugar) syrup • 8 – 10 fresh mint leaves • Splash ginger ale Method • Clap mint and drop in empty tall glass • Add all other ingredients except ginger ale and gently muddle • Add ½ glass with crushed ice and churn well to infuse flavours • Top with fresh crushed ice and ginger ale • Garnish with a fresh sprig of mint and two straws
