Mok Review

Tonight Mok are celebrating the release of their second single ‘Rufio’ with a launch party at the Haunt. Mok represent the absolute best of fresh, new Brighton talent. Throughout the night their energy and enthusiasm is infectious and we find ourselves singing along and partying as if they were one of our favourite bands – even though this is the first time we’ve seen them.

The six-piece band creates a funky, unique sound that gets everyone dancing around like they were at a huge but exclusive house party. They open the set with their debut single ‘Hey’ which gets a remarkable response from the crowd; the catchy lyrics are the kind that will be stuck in your head for days.

For a relatively new band they certainly knew how to perform and please a crowd. After a slightly slower number, they warned everyone it was time to party before hitting us with an all-out, hands-in-the-air mega-mix including covers of Snoop Dogg’s ‘What’s My Name?’ and The Arctic Monkey’s ‘When The Sun Goes Down.’ When they say it’s time to party they certainly aren’t lying.

We’re struck by frontman Lee’s unusual voice, but it grows on us the more we hear him. It helps that he, along with the rest of the band have so much passion and love what they’re doing, clearly relishing the opportunity to play at a great venue to a great crowd. They dance around on stage whilst maintaining a flawless, pitch-perfect performance.

Whenever we head to a night not knowing what to expect, it’s always a nice surprise when the band impresses us so much that we go home and look up their next gig. In case you’re interested, and you should be, it’s at Audio on May 11th. Check them out.
