Levellers, Fri 19th July

The none too surprising demand for tickets that triggered the transfer of this month’s long-awaited hometown Levellers show from St Bartholomew’s Church to the Dome takes away a little of the air of uniqueness from the evening, but will make up for it in volume, fun and the sheer number of fans freaking out in the hoedown. It’s their 25th anniversary concert, so if you’ve ever been a fan of the band’s politicised, unifying electric folk you really ought to be raising a flagon in salute.

Stuart Huggett grew up in Hastings, writing fanzines and blogs about the town’s underground music scene. He has been a regular contributor to SOURCE, NME, The Quietus and Bowlegs. His huge archive of magazines, flyers and vinyl is either an invaluable research tool or a bloody pain. He occasionally runs tinpot record label Dizzy Tiger, DJs sporadically and plays live even less.
