SOURCE Writers Wanted

For twenty years we’ve been Brighton’s most popular and trusted guide to the city – first as a printed magazine, now as a website. We preview Brighton’s best gigs, club nights and arts and culture events to keep Brightonians and visitors up to date.

SOURCE is looking for writers who know what’s going on to provide sassy and informative editorial for the website. This is an unpaid role, but like the rest of our team you’ll be doing it for the love of live music (and free gig tickets). We reckon it’s a good opportunity for students and budding writers to build up a portfolio – and maybe even for seasoned journos who want a break from their day job to try their hand at music writing.

But it’s not just gigs we cover. We welcome submissions on fashion, food, art, comedy, politics, theatre and film – as long as there’s a local angle. In fact, a specialist interest in any of the above would be a bonus (as would some familiarity with WordPress). You don’t necessarily need much experience, just a knack for writing and the ability to sniff out interesting local stories and events.

There is no great commitment: the minimum we’d expect is a couple of pieces a month. In return we’ll provide you with contacts, feedback and support. The best way to learn this stuff is by doing it. And, if you’re into that sort of thing, you can go to as many launch parties as you like.

If you’re still reading, send us an email outlining what you’ve done before, where your interests lie and what you’d like to write about. In addition, please send us a 120-word preview of an upcoming gig or event taking place in Brighton in November or December. If all goes well you’ll see your article go live within a few days.

In the meantime, check out our Contribute page to get an idea of the sort of pieces we’ll ask you to write. Hopefully, we’ll be hearing from you soon.
