Each month, SOURCE will be compiling a list of new Brighton music for you to check out. October’s round-up includes tracks by Luo, Demob Happy, Matt Finucane, Octopuses and High Tyde.

Luo
‘Ebb & Flow’ (Small Pond Recordings)

This month, experimental and cinematic collective, Luo, release their ‘Ebb & Flow EP’. Blending IDM with immersive live instrumentation, the EP is ambitious and a significant step forward for the foursome. With many comparisons being made to Flying Lotus, this is also a brilliant start to their recording sessions as a full band.

Demob Happy
‘Suffer You’ (SO Recordings)

Turbulent rockers Demob Happy (pictured) are carving the new route for grunge. ‘Suffer You’ was written on the off chance by guitarist and backing singer Rennie, whilst sitting in his underpants in his room. Their 12-track debut album ‘Dream Soda’ is out now and the boys will be doing a couple of November shows with The Districts and The Wytches before embarking on a full headline tour in December.

Matt Finucane
‘Lilith’ (The Animal Farm)

This one is for fans of Bowie. Music runs through the core of the mysterious and ground breaking singer/songwriter/poet, Matt Finucane. His new single, Lilith, has a gorgeously slow tempo with sultry and suggestive lyrics (“Lilith wrap your hair around my neck”). The single is due out over the Halloween weekend, and we couldn’t see a more fitting time for its release.

Octopuses
‘Cool Story Bro’ (Lick Music)

Aquatic band, Octopuses, have been making “neo-psychedelic” music since 2013 and have a canny knack of writing satirically honest lyrics over melodic keys. Grab your free copy of their new album ‘Yes Please’ (which features ‘Cool Story Bro’) when attending the launch show at The Green Door Store on Thursday 29th October. High Tyde
‘Do What You Want’ (High Tyde)

Currently drinking in October, Brighton teens, High Tyde, continue to do what they want. This includes writing uplifting tracks about the troubles faced by today’s youth and the uncertainties of getting older. The boys put a Tweet out asking their fans across the globe to submit footage of them doing whatever they wanted, and the result is a boisterous music video. They play Patterns on Friday 4th December.
