Ellie Ford Album Launch, Friday 22nd April

Ellie Ford is an artist who we’ve been following for quite a while, after an initial EP and then a collection of delicious covers. Her album ‘The Other Sun’ was due out last year under another name but is now about to be released on local label Hidden Trail Records.

Lead single ‘July’ was the recipient of much praise and many plays last autumn but didn’t quite prepare us for the subtlety and inventiveness of this extraordinary album. ‘The Other Sun’ captures not only the sublime beauty of Ellie’s solo performances with her guitar and harp, but also the energy and joy of her full-band incarnation. It’s a rich tapestry of classic pop-folk, beautifully produced with an array of tunes that swerve from the soulful to orchestral – all wrapped up in intelligent lyricism and warm northern-tinged vocals. Particular favourites include the incredible ‘How Do You Know’ and ‘The Only One’ as featured in her new video below.

Ellie will be playing a launch show for the album at Bleach on 22nd April, co-promoted by Melting Vinyl, and supported by the wonderful Alabaster Deplume whose comedic oddball genius would in normal circumstances be worth the entrance fee in its own right. Not to be missed.
