With the ongoing success of places like Vegetarian Shoes, Beelzebab at The Hope & Ruin, Purezza and Rootcandi plus new kids on the block, Green Kitchen, Happy Maki and Vegan Food Pimp at The Marlborough, Brighton is fighting back to regain its crown as the most vegantastic city in the UK. Even many chain restaurants, including Carluccio’s and Las Iguanas, are now offering separate vegan menus.

Which brings us nicely to the annual VegFest weekend at The Brighton Centre, now one of the biggest vegan events in Europe. This event is 100% vegan, with stallholders required to adhere to a vegan clothing policy. As with previous years there will be talks, cookery demonstrations and kids cookery classes plus on Saturday there will be an Intersectional Vegan Summit which will cover topics including direct action, racism and exclusivity within the vegan community and the new politics of animal liberation.

There is some light relief with the third Vegan Comedy Festival, a weekend-long film festival and two band stages. With 200+ stalls promoting vegan products and causes and 20 caterers, many of which are Brighton businesses, this promises to be the biggest and best celebration for plant-based people and those hoping to extend Veganuary into a lifestyle choice.
