Yazmin Lacey, Thurs 15th Nov

The upstairs room at Patterns is a great space, ideal for hosting jazz and soul gigs and this should be another great addition to the current run being curated by knowledgeable promoters. Next up is London-born, Nottingham-based rising nu-soul star Yazmin Lacey.

Mixing contemporary beats with classy jazz rhythms she’s been championed by Lauren Laverne who made her 6 Music’s recommended track of the week and Gilles Peterson, who showcased her as a ‘Future Bubbler’. She’s been putting music out for a couple of years and recently released her latest EP ‘When The Sun Dips 90 Degrees’ on First Word records, which conjures up the savvy, laid-back vibes of early Jill Scott blended with added contemporary sounds and lyrics.

Her music glides over you like a tender caress and her voice will melt your heart. She won’t be playing venues this small for much longer so grab this opportunity while you can.

We’ve got a pair of tickets to give away for this nearly sold out show. All you have to do is comment here saying which label released Yazmin’s latest EP and leave a comment tagging the friend that you plan to bring with you. However, in order to qualify, both you and your friend need to be on the Brighton Source mailing list. You can sign up here. The winner will be announced on Tuesday.
