A welcome return visit to Brighton Dome from the Soft Cell star, this time to perform songs from his latest passion project ‘I’m Not Anyone’ – a new album of covers. Following on from the likes of ‘Tainted Love’, ‘What’ and ‘The Night’, he has taken on another Northern Soul classic with a dramatic version of Rita & The Tiaras’ legendary ‘Gone With The Wind (Is My Love)’. Bob Lind’s beautiful ‘Elusive Butterfly’ was recorded by a multitude of performers in the 1960s and beyond and Mark Stevens’ sweet string arrangement honours the folky feel of the original.

‘I’m Not Anyone’ draws from different genres, from psychedelic and prog rock to folk, gospel and soul. From Blue Cheer’s ‘I’m The Light’, to Neil Diamond’s ‘Lonely Looking Sky’ (from Jonathan Livingston Seagull): a musical journey that includes King Crimson, Marmalade, Mahalia Jackson and Johnny Rivers, all given an orchestral rock sheen.

As Marc says of ‘I’m Not Anyone’: “There is an underlying spirituality to this record, a thread of mystery and wonder, and sweetness. The elemental references nod to my interest in all things Druid and Pagan, that spectrum between them, a closeness to the earth, to living things. I find comfort in the living world, in trees and animals, away from the insanity that engulfs and threatens us.”

Marc Almond plays Brighton Dome Concert Hall on Wednesday 11th September 2024
