Club Review: Poundance

00.-pound-danceweb

As we dragged ourselves off the SOURCE sofa we wondered what we thought we were going to find on a Wednesday night before the students came back. Cheap drinks are great but if you have to haul your arse into work at 9am the next day they’re a double-edged sword. So imagine our surprise as we walked along the seafront to see the smoking area packed, a theme that extended past the bar right through to the dancefloor. Quite simply, The Poundance has come from nowhere to be the port of call for young partygoers who want to have a great time for the least amount of money. Drinks deals have been part of midweek clubbing for years, so what makes The Poundance different? For a start, the deals are “Offer you can’t refuse” good – as the name suggests, selected drinks for a quid. But better than that the music refuses to dive to lowest common denominator pop the way that many clubs have in the past. A cool but accessible mix of indie, r&b, electro, and even dubstep have the up for it crowd of pretty young things cheering and throwing arms in the air like tomorrow might never come. Enormous fun, enormous night – midweek clubbing done exactly right.
