We have to admit that this one caught us out, but clearly we’re the last ones in town to know how amazing the Swing Ninjas’ nights at The Mesmerist are. The place is packed with a whole range of people, young and old-at-heart, who are clearly very excited about the prospect of swing music all night long. A good portion have dressed up, looking like they’re escaping World War II (no make do and mend here though), authentic without any hint of fancy dress.

Part of the excitement on the night we go down is thanks to the launch of the Ninjas’ album ‘Stop Killing The Jazz Man’, a wonderfully jolly bounce through the 1930s, all wandering melodies and singalong choruses. As if the band weren’t enough they’ve brought a cappella temptresses Swinging In Heels with them, plus a DJ and a burlesque fire eater. But much of the fun comes from the lindy hop dancers showing off their skills, twirling in front of the band. Wonderful fun all round. But you probably knew that already.
