Street Style, Becky

Brighton is home to many creative folk, but like any small town it can be difficult to get away from the same trends and tribes. Becky, who works at Pussy, seems to have found the perfect antidote to blending in with the crowd. “I don’t do high street. I want to look slightly unique so I don’t wear big brands cause I don’t want to see people wearing the same stuff as me.”

Becky shuns the fashion magazines and forges her own style system of beliefs, looking to hip hop music for inspiration. Describing her style as “ASBO chic” there is certainly an air of ghetto cool about her – from the chunky gold hooped earrings to the Nike trainers.

So apart from anything on the high street, what else would Becky not be caught dead in? “Dresses,” she says. “I’d only ever wear one at a funeral or a wedding.”

Headscarf
“This was either from a charity shop or Beyond Retro. I always wear a headscarf and very rarely wear my hair down.”

Glasses by Lacoste
“I always wear glasses. These are vintage and from Bromptons on Gardner Street. I’ve got lots of other pairs and I change them up depending on what mood I’m feeling.”

Earrings
“These are a bit of a secret gem. I have lots of pairs and everyone always asks me where they are from but I refuse to tell because I don’t want anyone else wearing them.”

Jacket by Beyond Retro
“I was very pleased with this find. I like Beyond Retro but try not to shop in the same places all the time.”

T-shirt by Alife
“I bought this when I was in New York. I quite like Alife’s clothes.”

Chains
“I always wear loads of chains. The smaller one is by a UK artist called Insa and the big one is from a car boot sale. Five or six years ago you could pick up jewellery like this really easily but now they can be harder to find.”

Bag by Perks And Mini
“Perks And Mini is an Australian company and someone got this bag for me as present.”

Trainers by Nike
“I always wear trainers and these were a present. I think I only own one pair of ‘normal shoes’ and about 30 pairs of trainers. It’s definitely an obsession.
