Club Review: Tongues

tongues in Brighton SOURCE at www.brightonsource.co.uk Brighton’s best listings, music and culture magazine

In last month’s listings we called Tongues a night for hipsters and they, apparently, weren’t very happy. Having now been we can tell why. More than maybe any other night in Brighton it’s a night for serious music geeks – the crowd is both really cool and not cool at all, but in a good way.
Sure, the playlist of post-punk, cold wave, no wave, Italo disco and electronica is über-now (cold wave and no wave), but it’s edging out of the speakers because the DJs are digging deep for sounds. After a few homes the night that’s also known as TNGS or ? has found a great venue in the Williamsburg warehouse chic of the Green Door Store which ought to mean that the bands who frequently guest get a decent stage.
If you go often enough you might even get an invite to their secret parties in working men’s clubs and crumbling Victorian mansions.
