From the way Charlie looks like all of the post-acid Beatles morphed together it should be no surprise that he’s a) in a psychedelic band (Paranoid Travellers – check them out), and b) can be frequently found in Liam Gallagher’s Pretty Green emporium. In fact it turns out that he’s manager of the latter. What caught our beady eye with Charlie was how he managed to look like he’s been hanging out with his late 60s/early 70s musical icons like Cream and “1969 era Beatles” without looking like he’s in a costume.
“The way I look isn’t authentic,” he admits, “but I guess it’s influenced by listening to all that music.”
His modern silhouette is helped by wearing a from-the-era shirt alongside more current items. Ask anyone about their style these days and they’ll tell you they mix “vintage with high street”, when what they really mean is they wear some second hand clothes. But Charlie really does pair the two, and with real class.
Jacket by Pretty Green
“It’s based on the one that John Lennon wore at the Rock And Roll Circus when he played with The Dirty Mac. I like the fact it looks vintage but it fits like a new jacket.”
Shirt, a gift
“It was a Christmas present – my girlfriend’s stepdad bought a job lot of 60s shirts. I’m a big fan of paisley and I like how slim it is in the body. And it’s got a big collar – too many shirts these days have got tiny collars.”
Belt by Calvin Klein
“I bought it in a charity shop. The leather looks quite old, so that’s quite nice, and it’s got two prongs. I always look for a big buckle.”
Jeans from charity shop
“I either go one of two ways. If I get a straight legged pair of jeans I don’t want them to cling to my legs like drainpipes, I just want them straight all the way down, a bit long in the leg so I can roll them up. Or I get bootcut or flared jeans.”
Shoes by Pretty Green
“They’ve got a crepe sole and I like how they’re in between a smart shoe and a trainer. They’re a casual shoe you wear on a day to day basis or you can smarten them up with the rest of your outfit.”
