FREE GIGS AND NO HARD DRIVE
Following 2008’s consolidatory event, this year’s Brighton Live music festival is puffing up its chest to showcase a bigger and better line-up of stellar acts than ever before. Brighton is all about great local live music and this year’s festival already has signatures on the dotted line from the likes of Grasscut, JFB, Restlesslist, PRJCTMYHM and Hereldeduke, with many other big names to be confirmed. Set across twenty venues across the city, Brighton Live is an all-free-entry event, giving you no excuse whatsoever to miss out. Find out more at brightonlive.net.

MACCAS OFF TO EDEN

If you’re heading down to the Eden Sessions at the thinking person’s Centerparcs, Cornwall’s amazing Eden Project, you’ll be getting an added bonus from the likes of local legends The Maccabees and Florence & The Machine, on the Razorlight and Paul Weller bills respectively. The shows are in aid of The Prince’s Rainforests Project (that’s Prince Charles, not the little Purple Rain fella) so you can wig out and help some beautiful foreign trees at the same time.

HEADBANGING FOR HEARTS
Thee Big Black, the Hobgoblin’s weekly metal night, are putting on a pair of charity shows at the Hobgob on Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th to raise dough for the Sussex Heart Charity. The shows feature the cream of doom, stoner, metal and post metal acts including Enos, Sloath. Bluehouse and Beadle, all yelling for a good cause. During the day, if the audiences can bear the sunlight, the pub is knocking out meat and veggie barbecue grub as well, with all profits going to the charity as well.

STANMER WELCOMES WILLKOMMEN
Sunday 5th sees Stanmer House and its surrounding greenery taken over by Willkommen for a mini festival. Across two stages you can experience the musical stylings of The Leisure Society, Alessi’s Ark, Peggy Sue and Sons Of Noel & Adrian with more acts being added all the time. It’s a good all-in deal at just twelve quid, and a good chance to hang about soaking up good music in an 18th century setting in the middle of a nature reserve. More info at willkommenrecords.co.uk.

HANBURY HOOCHIE
Thursday 9th is the night some quality live music action at the Hanbury, with the arrival of new night the Hoochie Coochie Lounge. Headline acts, special guests and a ‘cream of the crop’ open mic spot for local talent show-offs, plus the aptly named Hooch & The Coochies bringing some hot funk house band sounds to the intimate and stylish setting. Get your tickets from Rounder.

SPREAD THE CHEESE Boogaloo Stu dusts off his pop playlist at the Hanbury on Saturday 18th in the shape of PopKraft, a night of current pop tunes as well as Stu’s own unique cabaret experience, an apparently enthralling quiz and stalls with fun activities for you to do. We don’t have details on what these might be, but it should be a bit more interesting that your average club night. Stu knows his onions when it comes to showing Brighton a good time.

PRETTY FOOKIN’ GREEN
As you may well be fookin’ aware, Liam Gallagher has launched a new fookin’ clothes range called Pretty Green. As fookin’ Quadrophenia has been a major fookin’ influence on his fookin’ life, unsurprisingly the fookin’ clothes are well fookin’ mod-ish and actually pretty fookin’ cool. Liam’s made a fookin’ promo video for the clobber which you can fookin’ see at prettygreen.com, which features our fookin’ hero swaggering about fookin’ Brighton with the gear on, revisiting key locations from the fookin’ film and generally fookin’ ‘aving it. (Video contains moderate fookin’ language and sexual swearwords)

SPOT THE PLAYLIST
When we write about music in features like 6 Of The Best, we often wonder if anyone ever takes us up on our frankly unrivalled expert recommendations. You really should, we know what the hell we’re talking about. But if you’re in any doubt whether or not to trust us on the merits of, say, George Michael’s debut album this month, fire up your Spotify account and go to http://tiny.cc/sourcestereo. Here you’ll find we’ve thoughtfully made up a lovely SOURCE playlist with all the featured albums on it as well as a bunch of other stuff, like our swinging Office Stereo list and other bands we’re previewing this month.
