PRE-LOVED PREENING
When you’ve finished at Frock Me pop in and say hello to Vintage Me at the Martlets Hospice Shop on Church Street in Brighton – no door tax and some fabulous vintage bargains to be had on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th. Late opening till 8pm on the Saturday means you can start your White Night off with a vintage twist. From bejeweled 1920s flapper dresses to elegant 1940s hats displayed alongside vintage china and glassware the shop will no doubt be packed with beautiful finds. This should become a regular vintage event but needs a bit of Brightonian support to get it off the ground.

CHRISTMAS – NOW MERE WEEKS AWAY!
Here it is – SOURCE’s first mention of Christmas shopping. Before you luzz your magazine into the gutter with a bowel-loosening scream, consider that this is a new monthly craft and fashion market at Komedia, starting on Sunday 4th. Handmade Brighton has a focus on local independent talent, demonstrations and have-a-go activities – it’s a good way to get hold of unique and handmade gear like furniture, fashions, toys, paintings and jewellery without leaving it all to the last minute and braving the Day Of The Dead throngs in Churchill Square.

RETURN OF THE KAT
Komedia has plenty to celebrate in the shape of Kroon Kat Lounge – back on Saturday 17th with world champion hula-hooper Angi Mac, singers Vinny Reed, Abi Davidson and Tracy Jane Sullivan. Hosted by Miss Nicky Mitchell, the evening also promised swing jazz big band action from the Hepkat Huzzahs. Apparently Brad Pitt described his experience of the night, “The Leopard Lounge with English irony…a swell night out!” – and who are we to argue with him?

HANG WITH SLANG
Tuesdays. A depressing day of the week by anyone’s standards. But there’s clubbing-based help at hand in the capable hands of New Slang – a spanking new weekly night at Audio. The sounds brightening up the journey into Wednesday include the likes of MGMT, Hot Chip, The Pipettes and Vampire Weekend. Audio’s always a good place to hang out any night of the week, so this should be a hit.

DOWN WITH THE NEW
There’s a couple of good retro and vintage clothing outlets in town this month. – Beyond Retro, a legendary vintage shop from fancy London, has seen the light and is opening up in Brighton on Vine Street this month. Every week they get in 2,500 new pieces from all around the world, all knocked out at keen as mustard prices, as well as regular apparel events and even live bands instore every Saturday. Also in business is Wolf And Gypsy Vintage on Sydney Street, with a handy mid-priced stock range that falls neatly between the more jumble saley shops and the über-spendy antique shops. You’ll never buy new again.

CLUBBING WITH THE NME
Where oh where is Club NME? If this is the question you’ve been yelling at the sky, shaking your fists, then salvation is close at hand. For Club NME is back, moving to Life on a Thursday night. The opening night is Thursday 1st if you’re quick, featuring The Social and Baghdad Country Club playing live and the usual tried and tested NME playlist on the decks before, after and in between.

LUNGE FOR SOME GRUNGE
Given that the name of this new night Come As You Are is from a Nirvana song, it would have been frankly foolish of the organisers to plan an evening of blog house and fidget – thankfully they’ve got plans for rock, alternative, grunge and metal classics instead. It’s run by a couple of rock journos from big boys’ magazines – Q’s Garry Mulholland and former Kerrang editor Ashley Bird – so expect them to know their Pixies from their Pantera. It’s at the Black Lion, first Thursday of the month.
