Amp Fiddler + Abi Flynn, Sat 24th March

Funk the Format are taking a break from their summer festival this year and instead putting on a number of shows around Brighton. They’ve managed to secure the woefully underrated singer-songwriter, keyboardist and producer, Amp Fiddler. Flying in from Detroit for an exclusive live show in Kemptown’s stunning St Mary’s Church, he’ll be ably supported by local songstress Abi Flynn.

Amp Fiddler has acquired a loyal following for his serene, soulful sounds, as well as his collaborations with an elite group of musicians, including Prince, Primal Scream, Moodymann, Jamiroquai and George Clinton. He was also the keyboard player in Parliament/Funkadelic for over a decade.

Amp was responsible for introducing the Akai MPC sampling drum machine to both the late hip hop legend J Dilla and Q-Tip of A Tribe Called Quest, living up to his stage name and significantly influencing 90s hip hop. Dilla features on Amp’s fourth studio album ‘Amp Dog Knights’, a masterpiece of funky soul infused with psychedelic and electronic vibes, released in November 2017.

Supporting Amp inside the impressively refurbished St Mary’s Church, is Brighton’s very own soul sensation, Abi Flynn, who has recently signed to local record label Tru Thoughts. Flynn has often collaborated with labelmate J-Felix and her smooth, soulful vocals are rooted in jazz.

Early Bird tickets have already been snapped up. Limited advance tickets are now on sale.
