Occasionally, watching illustrative audio-visual magician David Blandy, you get the impression you might be able to hand him a discarded bag of mouldy chips and have them handed back to you as a beautifully animated, awe-inspiring alternate reality. Blandy is running an open studio as artist-in-residence for the Science Fest, a trip to which sounds slightly intimidating unless you’re familiar with his unimposing personality. His plans for the month include turning an ancient sea voyage into a space odyssey.
