Glasgow born vocalist Cécile’s latest work, inspired by music trips to New York and her recent move to London, reflects the bold new direction of her sound — a fresh, clean, and cool blend of jazz roots with the vibrant energy of modern soul and R&B.

Unlike many of her contemporaries that take a nu-soul approach to their music, Cécile’s arrangements, courtesy of her long-standing songwriting partner – pianist and composer Euan Stevenson – embrace the great US vocalists of the 1950s, such as June Christy and Chris Connor.

That said, she can also groove, as the 60s-flavoured ‘Communion’, from her current ‘City Girl’ five-track EP, demonstrates with its funky Blue Note sound.

Up and coming UK soul singer Amethyst will open the show. With influences that spread from Ella Fitzgerald, Donny Hathaway and Gregory Porter to Beyoncé, Lianne La Havas and Jazmine Sullivan, Amethyst’s sound combines modern R&B production and old school soul instrumentation, perfectly tying them together with a luscious and soothing, soulful jazz vocal. Amethyst’s beautiful vocals with her unique sound and distinctive look certainly makes her one to watch.
