Its a Woltering Christmas!

For fans of musical output of Isle of Man siblings Lily and Jack Wolter, today really is the jackpot and its paying out sweet music in the form of gigs and records.

Excitement has been building for a while about the release of the debut album by My Precious Bunny, which is released today on Bella Union. This is the solo project of Lily Wolter backed by an increasingly joyous crack team of some of the best musicians in Brighton.

They have been stealing the show at various Brighton festivals from Mutations to Homegrown and the Great Escape. As a lucky witness to several of those shows it has been a joy to witness this band grow in confidence and flower into a thing of beauty.

The album starts with gentle intricate folky flourish of ‘Times That Passed’ before the stomper that is ‘Blackcurrants’ smears its juicy fruit all over your face, a spectacular song worthy of ‘Funeral’ era Arcade Fire. The album is light on its feet and airy yet packs real depth in its quality and arrangements. ‘The Joys of Adulthood’ is a clear case in point. It floats by simply yet within that acoustic guitar line lurks a song of emotional heft, that will crawl under your skin and worm its way into your heart. It has not let go yet. It is simply on repeat as these words are written, before the pop of ‘Young Pup’ washes everything away in sunshine.

In terms of live shows Lily and her troubadours will be launching the record with a special show at the Bella Union Vinyl shop tonight. If you are reading about this now, you are at the back of the Dice Waiting List queue. But fear not, Woltering Christmas is a gift that gives, and Lily will be playing the colourfully over the top surroundings of Revenge on the 4th of July for Love Thy Neighbour.

But wait: Woltering Christmas is not over yet, for Lily’s brother Jack looks like he might get some time off from gallivanting across the world as part of the very sexy CMAT band, and Penelope Isles are set to return as a three piece with an album in the can and world tour that includes two shows; matinee and evening, upstairs at the Hope and Ruin on October 31st.

Team Source could not be more excited.
