Some still contend that modern comedy is a young person’s game, but the rise of Micky Flanagan – a feller old enough to be Jack Whitehall’s dad – to the top rank of British comedians gives lie to this view. Flanagan’s appeal is his unforced everyman demeanour, an open-hearted view of the world grounded in his East End upbringing. You feel he’s the sort as happy to reel off anecdotes one on one in a bar as in front of an arena crowd.
Top stuff.
