Paul Smith & The Intimations, Weds 9th Sept

With Maximo Park gearing up for their 10th anniversary tour, which sees the band performing their debut album ‘A Certain Trigger’ in full, lead singer Paul Smith has also been busying himself with his second solo album ‘Contradictions’. He has again collaborated with Field Music’s Peter Brewis, whose brainy soft-rock influence is evident on lead track ‘Coney Island (4th of July)’ which has sneaked out ahead of the album’s August release, while the first single ‘Break Me Down’ is slightly more reminiscent of Smith’s work with Maximo Park. A surprising bonus comes in the form of support act Devon Sproule, whose scrumptious country folk songs have long charmed Brighton gig-goers.
