Here at Brighton Source we love a weekend matinee show and The Prince Albert seems to have cornered the market in putting these shows on, this time with respected indie promoters Bizarro Promotions, who’ve put together an excellent line-up.
Formed in 1987 and named after the 1901 novel The Wouldbegoods, by The Railway Children author E. Nesbit, Would-be-goods are a British indie pop band comprised of singer Jessica Griffin, guitarist Peter Momtchiloff (Talulah Gosh, Heavenly), Debbie Green, drummer and darling of the London nineties garage scene with Thee Headcoatees, and Andy Warren, legendary bassist of the original Adam And The Ants and The Monochrome Set.
They’ve released five critically acclaimed studio albums and their latest release ‘The Night Life’ is made up of four five-song EPs released on Bandcamp last year. Each song was written and recorded in a single day and they make a wonderfully eclectic album that includes wistful ballads, folky psych pop and music hall melodies.
Also on the bill are Panic Pocket, who have been making a name for themselves with London support slots for the recently reformed Wakefield wonder band The Research and Rachel Love, of Dolly Mixture fame. Their musical storytelling covers shaking off bad relationships, the life-changing nature of female-friendship and the perils of online dating.
Sunday 5th May, The Prince Albert. Doors 2:15, first band 2:30.
Tickets are available here.
