Club Review: Doctor’s Orders

Doctors Orders club night reviewed in Brighton SOURCE magazine, Brighton's best music, arts, club and listings magazine.

Maybe we’re wrong but Brighton’s a hip hop town, right? There’s certainly enough weed smoked. But where are all the pure, traditional hip hop club nights? Slip Jam:B is still dropping beats – now at The Hope – after a decade, and Jailbait is playing a load of 90s stuff to a new young crowd, but what about the heads? Doctor’s Orders have come down from London to change all that, and they’re arriving loaded with props, not least from Time Out who called them “the kings of the capital’s hip hop scene”. They’ve got a killer residents in the shape of Spin Doctor and Rusty Ryan who keeps things soulful but proper, and they’ve been booking some great quests – the night we popped down Rodney P & Skitz hit the stage for an extended set. The crowd as knowledgeable but still up for the party, and there’s as much dancing as head nodding. No wonder their nights at Fabric and The Big Chill House are so well regarded – it’s good to have them down here too.
