Club Review: SuperCharged

Supercharged
As far as club nights go, SuperCharged has achieved the kind of brand recognition normally associated to something with a Unilever logo stamped all over it. Wednesday in Brighton is SuperCharged – not so much a regular night as a full-blown musical institution for followers of beats, breaks and bass.

The times though, they be a-changing. The SuperCharged head honchos aren’t satisfied in totally dominating the Brighton breaks scene anymore. This year has the SC team upping the ante by spreading the spectrum even further with the night now covering bottom heavy beats from dubstep to drum’n’bass and of course breaks.

DMC winner and legendary turntablist DJ Craze drops by from the US, DJ Marky the drum and bass party favourite is set to serve up his Brazilian-infused energy and dubstep dons Skream are preparing to make the pilgrimage from erm, Croydon. There’s even an end of Feb slot booked for the hottest drum’n’bass production duo on the Planet – Chase & Status.

Not that the SC breaks roots are being denied. When we dropped in, Miami ‘booty bass’ merchant Deekline was dropping slices of breakbeat dripping in bass heavy vibes to an appreciative audience. An audience who will no doubt be even more up for it with the news that it’s now free to get in to a SuperCharged night before 11pm; with drinks at the inflation-busting price of two quid all night.

We sound like an advert – but that’s only because it’s that good.
