Pop Not Pop Review

Jun 27, 2012

Posted by James Kendall

It’s a dire time for pop music. If the 80s were one long summer, Game Of Thrones-style, then we’ve been in the arse end of winter for most of this decade. Of course there are gems amongst the autotuned, Guetta-driven urban-electro and Pop Not Pop slip in artists like SBTRK and Joe Goddard. Thankfully they extend genre and time boundaries too, heading back through the 80s, 90s and 00s. It’s a celebration of pop music from r’n’b to electropop, a reminder that it’s not all about LMFAO and The Black Eyed Peas, whatever Radio 1 might tell you.

The place is always rammed with a range of ages having a huge amount of fun, and the dancefloor stays packed all the way until 5am. What puts this above many other pop nights is the DJs, digging deep into the cool crates and mixing tracks together with the same skill as a dance jock. It’s free, so head down and fall in love with pop music again.
