There aren’t many club nights in Brighton that focus on liquid drum’n’bass, and that’s because they couldn’t compete with Jazznote. It’s a constantly evolving club night with a loyal fan base, and has skipped through various venues to its current home at 10 Below, where there’s a free event every Thursday. The bookings are a heady mix of big names, fresh collaborations and exciting newcomers, with Cyantific, Ivy Lab and Hybrid Minds playing recent nights. There’s always representation from Brighton talent too, including residents Shiver, S.T., Badger and Lofty, which makes for packed, energetic dance floors.
Although Jazznote is dedicated to liquid drum’n’bass, it’s not elitist about genres: on the night we visited, there was hip hop by Kung Fu in room two and the Well Rounded Vinyl Vendors playing house, garage and anything else they fancied in the bar. This exemplifies one of the friendliest, most up-for-it club nights in Brighton. Take note.
