The Stick Up

Seven years ago The Basement put on SubScreenSonic, an exhibition of international screen-printed gig posters from many of the best artists in the genre, including Tara McPherson, Chuck Sperry and Mike King. Not only was it one of the best things we’ve ever seen at the Fringe, it also proved to be hugely influential, not least from the workshops taught by Sperry and King. Since then we’ve had a further exhibition from BRAG, who met at Sperry’s workshop, and now Brighton’s commitment to the art form continues with The Stick Up, a new annual exhibition that’s part of The Great Escape.

Having sent invitations to the best European print studios, The Stick Up say they’ve had a wide variety of work back, “some slick, some crass and irreverent, others are soft and cute”. Rather than a single exhibition, there will be a trail across the city, starting at Super+Super, which will become The Stick Up Shop for the duration of the trail. Alternatively check out thestickup.co.uk for more info.

The Stick Up
Trail starts at Super+Super, Kings Rd, Thurs 16th – Sat 19th May, currently still running at the Green Door Store
