Lethal Bizzle, Fri 8th October

Posted by Jessica M McHattie

Back in the early 2000s when grime was a mere toddler, Lethal B was an integral part of More Fire Crew and partly responsible for ‘Oi,’ which must be familiar to anyone who went to a club in London in 2002. Then, with ‘Pow (Forward)’ in 2004, he sealed his reputation for crafting heavy, catchy bangers. After that however, as grime grew up around him, Lethal Bizzle seems to have focused on setting up clothing lines and record labels, having some public spats and then re-releasing ‘Pow’ in 2011 with an all-star line-up including JME, Wiley and P Money.

It’s a shame he’s just known for ‘Pow,’ because as well as being a primary player in the evolution of hip hop to garage and grime and on through various mutations to dubstep and UK funky, he’s collaborated with and influenced a whole generation of innovative musicians. This night, part of his Denchchat Tour, will showcase why he’s such an important figurehead and why he’s still as relevant as ever.
