Porridge Radio and Penelope Isles, Sat 30th Sept

There’s a great night of young alternative acts at the end of this month at the Latest Music Bar.

Headliners Porridge Radio are longtime favourites of Brighton Source (we interviewed Dana a while back) and their superb debut album ‘Rice, Pasta and other fillers’ hasn’t been off the stereo since its release last year. A second album is in the pipeline, so we expect the band to mix old and new songs in yet another of their stunning live performances.

Penelope Isles are a four-piece centred around brother and sister Jack and Lily Wolter, who moved to Brighton from the Isle of Man. They released their superb single Cut Your Hair on Bristol’s Art is Hard records, a gentle earily melodic slice of melancholia which has got a lot of people’s ears pricked up. We are looking forward to seeing them perform more of their sugar-laced pop and harmonies that are reminiscent of the Magic Numbers.

Also on a great value bill are Beach Tape, a band formed in Brighton playing alternative indie with the kind of louch dynamics of bands like Pavement, as featured on their excellent debut EP ‘Hold Music’.

Opening proceedings is Captain Lovelace, who orignates from France but also lived in Norway and Germany before settling in Brighton. She has toured with the legendary Kath Bloom and shared stages with the likes of Aldous Harding, Basia Bulat and GirlPool amongst others. Get there early.

…and stay late, as the live bands are followed into the early hours by live electronic acts and DJs in what’s set to be a great (and great value) night.
