Downtown Boys, Weds 11th October

In May last year there was an afternoon gig at The Green Door Store which totally blew everyone present away. You may have heard and loved their lo-fi, shouty cover of Springsteen’s ‘Dancing In The Dark’ but they are truly a force to be reckoned with in person.

With strong female vocals, courtesy of the ferocious Veronica Ruiz, and sax screaming over their politically-charged two minute blasts of energy, Downtown Boys are like a fired-up 21st Century American version of X-Ray Spex.

From Providence, Rhode Island they are tightly involved with local pressure groups and fully aware of their nation’s shortcomings as expressed in their song Wave Of History.

Their latest album ‘Cost Of Living’ was released in August on Sub Pop and Rolling Stone magazine called them “America’s most exciting punk band”. You can judge for yourselves next week.

South London punk trio Big Joanie are back to support so get there early for what promises to be an explosive show.
