Africa In The Lounge – Livestreams

Long established as a leading promoter of African music in Brighton, African Night Fever have teamed up with Yaram Arts to present a series of live concerts streamed from Ooosh! Studios.

Three artists will perform twice, once in November and again in December, and will appeal to existing fans of African music and those looking to dip their toes into a genre that may be new to them.

First up is Gambian master percussionist and vocalist Musa Mboob and his band Xam Xam. Mboob played a successful album launch gig at The Brunswick just before lockdown so this will be a great opportunity to experience West African music performed with a fusion of traditional and contemporary instruments.
Fri 6th Nov, Fri 4th Dec 8pm

Saidi Kanda & Mvula Mandondo Band follow two weeks later. A former Womad Percussionist of the Year, Kanda has played with most of the greats of African Music including Papa Wemba, Kofi Olamindea and Mose Fanfan. The Tanzanian multi-instrumentalist is known for his energetic style and feelgood performances.
Fri 20th Nov, Fri 11th Dec 8pm

Finally, Kasai Masai (pictured) are first class exponents of the fast-paced Soukos and Congolese rumba, and have worked alongside many of Congo’s leading musicians, including the legendary Kanda Bongo Man. Their style adds a contemporary twist to the traditional sounds of Congo’s remote villages where music is a way of life.
Fri 27th Nov, Fri 18th Dec 8pm

To access the live streamed events go to Facebook or YouTube.

All concerts are free to watch, though donations are welcome.
