Maybe we’ve been looking in the wrong places but it’s been a long time since we’ve seen a proper mosh pit in a club. Oh, we’re not talking about pogoing up and down sloppily – the passionate crowd at alternative night stalwart Guerilla Rocks go at it like dancing is murder and suicide at the same time. The GR team stress that this isn’t a rock night – and certainly the drum’n’bass, ska and indie is lapped up – but it’s the metal that has people singing along the loudest and throwing themselves into the dancing with most abandon. Cos that’s why everyone is risking work/uni/school with a healthy hangover – they have to dance this shit out of their systems.
Kerrang! magazine advised its readers that, due to Guerilla, “being a pansy and saving yourself for the weekend is no longer an option” and there’s certainly abandon here. If you wish it could be Reading Festival every week, Guerilla Rocks is gonna have you photocopying sick notes for Wednesday mornings.
