Danny

When you think about archetypal vintage Brighton style, it always comes back to mods and rockers. Danny here falls rather obviously into the latter camp – a direct fashion descendent from the first generation of teenagers who, under a flurry of imported rock’n’roll from the States, decided they didn’t want to dress like their parents anymore.

Danny describes himself as a rocker, most influenced by the look of the mid to late 50s – a halcyon period when Eddie Cochran and Gene Vincent were the looks to emulate. This is a straight-out classic rock’n’roll look, although Danny mixes it up with more rockabilly clobber like peg trousers and gabardine jackets for more formal attire. There’s no trouble with mods these days thankfully, but Danny admits, “I don’t really like going in Jump The Gun, it feels a bit odd…”

Hair
“I use a mixture of Red Dax and Black & White, it’s a combination that works well for my hair type. And I like the smell of Black & White ”

Jacket
“This is a vintage 50s Aero leather jacket from One Legged Jockey in Portsmouth. I get a lot of my stuff there. It’s a great tight fit. Aero is just a really good make of leathers.”

T-shirt
“It’s just a plain red t-shirt really, but it’s a Hanes Beefy. They’ve used the same design since the late 40s – Marlon Brando used to wear them all the time.”

Jeans
“Levi 501s – they’re the hardest-wearing jeans you can buy. I have them taken in to make them drainpipes. A local tailor does them for a fiver.

Boots
“These winklepickers are a late 50s/early 60s design. I get these off the internet.”
