Street Style: Peter

In today’s eclectic style climate, especially on the cosmopolitan streets of Brighton, we’re used to seeing eccentricity. People like to dress up, but it can sometimes look like they’ve actually been at the nursery dressing up box – all statement but little underlying style. That’s not the case for this month’s subject, however. Peter Gosbee is all about the Steampunk genre, a mishmash of Victorian properness and a correspondingly period impression of industrial futurism. You can see more about Steampunking on Peter’s website TheThreeOfClubs.com, where he sells his own jewellery designs. Here’s what he says about his ensemble.

Hat A 1930s Dunn & Co bowler, given to me by a man in the street who thought I looked like I quite liked hats. I dreamt that I’d cut it in half, so I did. Then I stuck it back together again.

Shades
1920s avaiation sunglasses, not sure where they came from.

Neckerchief This is just a plain black bandana, I think it came from a kitchen I was working in.

Shirt It’s a white Vivienne Westwood shirt, I think it was £60 or £70.

Suit A two-piece Daniel Hechter suit; I found the jacket and trousers separately about three years apart, and they happened to match.

Shoes They’re black and white brogues by a company called Ask The Missus.

Case This was a charity shop find. On this particular day it contained a change of hat, some CDs and a book on dissection.
