The team behind Homegrown have dropped the final line up announcement on an unsuspecting city. Its fair to say they have not pulled any punches, and this again shaping up to being a tasty day out. It also speaks volumes about the vibrancy of our local music scene, that line up for this third edition can feel so different to the last two events and yet still feel exciting and demanding of your attention. Plucking through the dregs on the third volume of a compilation series: this is not.
Headliners now include the elctro metal fury of CLT DRP and the twanging embodiment of a Tarantino soundtrack that is Black Honey as well as two acts, who whilst not from Brighton, say this town was a formulative part of their growth as a performing artist. This includes the phenomenal Irish punks Enola Gay and the Boy Genius approved songwriting of Jasmine 4T.
The expanded line up is also hugely diverse. From the solo harp work of Eva Lunny, via the enssemble cosmic jazz of the Hill Collective to the good time party ‘punk n roll’ of Kitchen Lover, via the yacht rock of Soft Top, the cosmic post rock of Caenn Capaill, the riotous funky rock of Genn, and the musical melting pot that is Attic’o’matic and the youthful fun of The Wrong Trousers.
There are also several acts this writer is excited to catch for the first time too. The former Eighties Matchbox and Nine Inch Nails guitarist Richard Fownes is bringing his new project Not Richard & Her Majesty to the party, the Divine Comedy approved White Magic for Lovers will be playing their art pop while Kate Peaches will be entertaining us with her bubbly take on the paisley pop sounds of 80s LA Girl bands.
