New In Town: Mr Bongo Record Shop

The Mr Bongo label was a stalwart of the London record scene in the 1990s/2000s with a shop that moved around Soho until finally closing in 2003. They relocated their office to Brighton in 1999 and have now thrown open their doors to punters in the heart of the North Laine, neatly snuggled between The Basketmakers and The Eagle.

With prices ranging from £3 for double A side 7″ reissues to £75 for ultra rare original 1960s Brazilian albums the selection may be small but the quality is high, plus there’s a listening deck for you to try before you buy.

As the building doubles as the label’s headquarters they are only opening on Saturdays at the moment but if you can’t wait until the weekend to pick up the latest Hollie Cook dub single or a box set of The Incredible Bongo Band then you might be able to make an appointment to browse, but make sure you call to check first.

Mr Bongo Record Shop, 6 Gloucester Yard, 121-123 Gloucester Road, BN1 4AF
Phone: 01273 600546
Open Saturdays between 11am and 6pm
