Alela Diane and Ryan Francesconi, Tues 10th Nov

Alela Diane is coming back to Brighton to promote her new collaboration with guitarist Ryan Francesconi, ‘Cold Moon’. This is something to saviour.

Diane is the enchanting folktress, whose extraordinarily beautiful vocals and songwriting have been captured well on such classic tracks as ‘White As Diamonds’ from her 2009 album ‘To Be Still’ or ‘About Farewell’ from the 2013 album of the same name. Her collaboration with Francesconi came about after the two met after a gig, Ryan the guitarist looking for a muse and Diane in a fallow period of songwriting after the birth of her daughter. The end result has the same sense of other-worldly magical beauty as her previous work, and if previous performances are anything to go by this should make for a highly memorable show.

And although we were sent the usual promotional photograph, Diane posted this picture online for Halloween of her family dressed up as Courtney Love, Kurt Cobain and daughter Bean circa 1993, and frankly how could you not want to go see anyone who does that?

Support comes from Pennsylvania folkie Vikesh Kapoor whose album ‘The Ballad Of Willy Robbins’ was one of the best roots albums of 2013, and local lass Ellie Ford, who is about to release her excellent debut album and definitely needs to be seen. Get there early.
