At The Edge Of The Sea, Sat 25th

David Gedge’s annual shindig returns with The Wedding Present performing their Albini-produced ’91 album ‘Seamonsters’ and probably a few selections from new record ‘Valentina’. The typically intriguing support bill includes Gedge’s Cinerama and reformed fellow Peel show favourites Cud. Local Gene genius Martin Rossiter continues his mission to return class to the pop song with a host of new mini-epics, plus there’s readings from Catriona Child and live comic drawing by illustrator Lee Thacker. Great bands, no camping – the perfect festival.

Second opinion:

Billed as a one-day indoor festival, At The Edge Of The Sea is curated by The Wedding Present’s frontman David Gedge and is headlined with his influential indie rock band playing their seminal 1991 album ‘Seamonsters’ live. The 3pm-10pm roster includes heavenly Los Angeles synth band Nightmare Air, who performed a blistering set at SXSW this year; Brighton-based songwriter and ex-Gene singer Martin Rossiter, whose beautiful melodies have won him fans for decades; Cinerama; Sawkestra and more. Words by Jessica Marshall McHattie.
