Calexico, Tues 19th Feb

On 2012’s ‘Algiers’, Calexico’s ninth album, the core duo of Joey Burns and John Convertino played to their strengths confidently, if softly. Live, the band are anything but subdued, swinging from Americana to rock and back again via the Mexican or, latterly, New Orleans influences they cherish. There’ll be horns aplenty, sure, but possibly the greatest thing about Calexico is the way they make ensemble performance look effortless, and they clearly still love it.
