Shy FX is a drum’n’bass don, no doubt about it, but for us this line-up’s all about Breakage. His percussive productions have a real spaciousness to them, often sparse yet somehow remaining rich with gravelly basslines and jazz-inspired half-step beats, as is evident on his masterful dubstep remix of Clare Maguire’s ‘Ain’t Nobody’. His drum’n’bass tunes demonstrate a love of old school jungle, the chilled minimal amen breaks with yearning strings and echoing effects mean there’s plenty of atmosphere.
