Helen Cann: Hand Drawn Maps, 22nd – 25th June

Helen Cann’s new show at ONCA Gallery promises to be a treat for all lovers of beautiful, informative design. This Thursday the award-winning Brighton based illustrator unveils a selection of her recent work to mark the release, earlier this month, of her book ‘Hand Drawn Maps’, published by Thames and Hudson. Readers may already be familiar with Cann’s children’s illustrations (she has contributed to over 30 books), yet this project feels like an extra special labour of love, driven by personal passion for quirky cartography, and aimed at all ages. By focussing on so many different kinds of mapping, from standard geographical to conceptual, Cann’s approach shows how these documents can enlighten our experience of the world yet retain their essential beauty as artworks. Enriching, enlightening stuff. Pop down to Thursday’s launch event (6-9pm) to meet the artist.
