We’re excited that folk singer-songwriter and guitarist Jen Cloher will return to Brighton from down under for a second time this year.

Cloher’s self-titled fourth album was released in 2017 via Milk! Records, the independent artist run label she runs with her partner, and founder of the label, Courtney Barnett, who appeared in her band giving it a distinctive grungy edge back in February this year.

Cloher, a self-managed musician, spoke last time about how you wouldn’t think a woman in her forties would be successfully touring and releasing records. And added that it’s her growing number of fans supporting her, buying records and coming to see her shows that makes it all happen.

She’s gone from strength to strength since releasing her debut album ‘Dead Wood Falls’ under the name Jen Cloher And The Endless Sea back in 2006, and must know how it feels to be a struggling artist. She’s also invested her time and passion into helping other young Australian musicians via her self-management programme ‘I Manage My Music’ for which she won a Lighthouse management award a few years ago.

This time, with Barnett back for her own show only weeks later, we’re expecting Cloher to present a stripped-back folk set for an intimate show at Komedia.

We can expect her at her best with lyrically astounding songwriting paired with her intricate and melodic guitar playing. The Guardian gave her latest album a five-star review and called it “a slow-burning masterpiece from a first-class songwriter” and we can’t wait to hear more.
