Swansea Sound, Snoozers, Sunday 24th November

Those matinee shows keep coming. This time there’s another great Sunday afternoon lineup on 24th November at The Prince Albert courtesy of Bizarro Promotions.

Indie supergroup Swansea Sound hail from Kent/Swansea. Reuniting Hue Williams and Amelia Fletcher, the original singers of cult 1990s UK indie band The Pooh Sticks, Swansea Sound have become a popular fixture on the UK indie scene. They have released two acclaimed albums, are frequently played on the BBC and recorded a live BBC 6 Music session last year. Described as ‘an indiepop miracle’ by All Music, Swansea Sound combine a witty, sardonic, very contemporary lyrical attack with timeless guitar-pop songwriting. Latest single ‘Markin’ It Down’, which features Amelia as an unimpressed record shop worker and Hue as an ever-optimistic customer, was released in April to mark International Record Store Day. The live experience is unmissable, with Hue and Amelia playing off each other, sometimes duetting, sometimes harmonising, always entertaining, while the band (Rob Pursey – also Heavenly; Bob Collins – The Dentists; Ian Button – Death In Vegas) kick up an infectious melodic racket.

Renowned bon vivant and all-round gent Jon Bartholomew Slade (ex-Huggy Bear, sometime Comet Gain) re-materialises with defector doodler Steve Ursula Dore (Casual Dots) and international pop secret Nadia Roger Buyse (Dubais) to make Snoozers, who will be opening proceedings.

This minimalist three piece has released a single to much acclaim from the punk underground through Notown records in 2020 and has since self-released more digitally and on Cassette through Jon Slade’s Promotional Palace tape label.

The Prince Albert, Sunday 24th November 2024. Doors open at 2:30
