The Miserable Rich, Fri 30th Nov

Posted by Stuart Huggett

It’s a bittersweet night at SOURCE New Music this month, as Brighton favourites The Miserable Rich play what will be, for the time being at least, their farewell show. Stemming from multi-limbed folk collective Shoreline, The Miserable Rich recorded a series of bright, chamber pop albums interspersed with some inspired, string driven covers, from Pixies to Hot Chip. With founding cellist Will Calderbank off on a new bout of touring with Mumford & Sons, the band take an indefinite break after tonight.

Stuart Huggett grew up in Hastings, writing fanzines and blogs about the town’s underground music scene. He has been a regular contributor to SOURCE, NME, The Quietus and Bowlegs. His huge archive of magazines, flyers and vinyl is either an invaluable research tool or a bloody pain. He occasionally runs tinpot record label Dizzy Tiger, DJs sporadically and plays live even less.
