Christian Shank

Last year he shook the club scene savagely by its neck like a bad babysitter, when he released his debut EP, ‘Girl Thing’ which proceeded to wreck dancefloors with its echoey bassline and helium vocals reminiscent of oldskool garage.

And the man of the moment didn’t disappoint tonight, immediately dropping some of his signature squelch and making what was an airy Audio quickly jam-pack to the ceiling with club kids entangling their limbs to his category dodging fidget jacking, house-step.
The likes of his Hooligans remix got everyone’s heart palpitating with its wobbling bass punctuated by high-pitched beeps, sirens and bleeps. The 8-bit artillery was relentless; his womp-tastic remix of Little Boots’ ‘New in Town’ had hands reaching to touch the intangible rays of green lasers beaming over our heads. The track’s lyrics, “I don’t have a lot of money but we’ll be fine, no I don’t have a penny but I’ll show you a good time” were all the more poignant in a free night that was truly rammed to the sweat drenched rafters with raving dissidents.
His unforgiving mixing doesn’t let up and before you’ve had a chance to breathe and sip your pint another high-octane bass will be bubbling up from the background, like the Rancor gargling Listerine inside a colossal pinball machine. It drops and the crowd are again in the barrel of some rim-kicking grime-wave. If you want to get crunked up and bounce the night away, A1 Bassline is not to be missed.
