AkaAkaRoar Review

AkaAkaRoar have been putting on club nights at Life since early 2010, nights that are filled with underground vibes, filthy bass and packed rooms of satisfied punters. Most recently they crammed in a plethora of talent including the owner of the Swamp81 record label and co-founder of the DMZ record label, Loefah. We also get two exciting youngsters – Thefft and Paleman – who have been grabbing the attention of all the right people, even getting their mixes played by the likes of Mary Ann Hobbs.

Met by a wall of bass that you could feel vibrating right through your whole body Paleman certainly knows how to get the crowd feeling the music, building us up to his filthy dub track ‘Destroya’ that leaves everyone hungry for more. Appeasing us is Thefft, who keeps us glued to the dancefloor but lightens it up a little with his melodic overtones, providing a chance to grab a breather before being sucked in by the bass once more. He too continues to build up the excitement and tension until Loefah takes to the decks and smashes out some of his raw, seminal basslines that gets every person into the main room to be astounded by his masterful set. He seems to be pushing us into a new territory and genre that I’m not sure any of us could put a name to. The sounds are like none we’ve heard before, all we know is that the club is packed and not one person wants to leave the dance floor.
