Club Review: Shades Rave

Shades Rave for Brighton's SOURCE magazine, Brighton's best listings, music, art, club and culture magazine

“I wear my sunglasses at night,” sang Tiga*, “So I can watch you weave then breathe your storylines.” All of which is a poncy way of saying he likes to eye up the birds without getting a slap. No such behaviour at Shades Rave – everyone is having too much fun to stand there watching other people. Originally driven by Doorly – who makes a return this month – now Blah Blah Blah are pushing the party tunes. So what we get is a healthy chunk of blog-friendly electro but with a load of party stuff thrown in as well, and even a bit of dubstep.

Burns was on the decks on the night we popped down and it was going off, but even when its residents only Shades Rave is one of busiest and most chaotic nights, with about 80% of the crowd rocking sunglasses. As Tiga says, “Don’t be afraid of the guy in shades, oh no.”

*Yes, we know Cory Hart wrote it first.
